Respite Care

Supporting Families Through Respite Care

WHAT IS RESPITE CARE?

Respite care is the provision of short-term, temporary relief to those who are caring for family members at home. Without the availability of respite service, most of these individuals would require permanent placement in institutions or health care facilities. Even though most families take great joy in providing care for their loved ones so that they can remain at home, the physical, emotional and financial consequences for the family caregiver can be overwhelming without support, such as respite.  Respite has been shown to help sustain family caregiver health and well-being, avoid or delay out-of-home placements, and reduce the likelihood of abuse and neglect. A pilot study has shown that respite may also reduce the likelihood of divorce and help sustain marriages.

We are pleased to offer the gift of time for families in need of backup care on a short-term basis. Overnight care at Village at Stoney Glen is available to individuals age 16 and older. The services can be utilized for periods of time lasting just a few hours up to 30 days at a time.
