The Enrichment Program
For the Medically Fragile.
Base Program – 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
The Enrichment Program will have a variety of morning activities that will provide opportunities for group participation and exploration of the environment. This time will be followed by movement activities, inside and outside, as well as a weekly, structured physical activity class. Instructional Period I will incorporate sensory and learning activities, as well as encourage social and safety skills.
Following lunch, Enrichment Villagers will have creative literacy, which can include listening to a book on CD, read aloud, or manipulating books with tactile properties or interactive opportunities. This time may also be used for group games or indoor activities.
This program will provide functional activities and age-appropriate yet stimulating materials to increase attention to a task, improve hand use, promote sensory stimulation, and decrease undesirable behaviors such as self-stimulation and avoidance of social contact.
We will provide materials adapted to the user to help motivate and facilitate success through sensory appeal. These materials will have bright colors, color contrast, and moving parts. We will utilize materials covered with interesting textures such as fur, terrycloth, or felt to encourage tactile exploration. We will also utilize items that vibrate for a multisensory experience.
We will utilize music as a sensory modality and to reinforce when tasks are introduced.
