Village at Hickory Glen
In 2009, The Village entered into a partnership with the Mental Health & Mental Retardation Authority of Harris County (MHMRA) to provide affordable housing to individuals with disabilities in our community. MHMRA co-sponsored an application for a HUD Section 811 Affordable Housing Project to construct 15 apartment units designed to provide affordable housing for individuals with disabilities. This project is the first of it’s kind in the State of Texas serving this population.
The Village secured 3.58 acres of land located in Kingwood in order to build the units in a community setting close to support services which will be provided by the Center. The building site is located at the corner of Chanay Lane and Hickory Glen Court, minutes away from our Center located on Plum Valley Drive, adjacent to the Village Community Center located on Glade Valley Drive, and just south of Kingwood Park High School.
In 2010, a $1.8 million dollar grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) was approved. Architects for the project are Jackson & Ryan Architects of Houston and the contractor is Cook Construction of Cleveland, Texas.
Additional funders of the project were the City of Houston Housing & Community Development Department, the Federal Home Loan Bank, The Meadows Foundation, The Mabee Foundation and Joe & Cathy Cleary.
Construction began in the Fall of 2012. The project received its Certificate of Occupany in August 2013 and residents moved in at the beginning of September 2013.
Applications for residency can be picked up at the apartment complex located at 3911 Hickory Glen Court; Kingwood, Texas 77339 between the hours of 10 am to 3pm Monday thru Friday.
